The Cross that unites hearts: Jesus and Mary

In every Schoenstatt Shrine, the Unity Cross reminds us that Jesus calls us to reconciliation, love, and total self-giving. It is not just a symbol: it is a living commitment, a reminder that our faith is manifested in concrete actions.

My design of the Cross is inspired by the original Schoenstatt Unity Cross, which is undoubtedly the most beautiful cross I have ever seen. There, Jesus is not alone; his suffering is shared by his Mother, who never abandons him.

In Schoenstatt spirituality, the Mother accompanies every encounter with her Son. On the cross, Jesus entrusted his Mother to us, and it was precisely to John that he entrusted her in that moment of sorrow. Therefore, in my design, the text from the Gospel of John appears, recalling that unique moment: "Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother" John 19:25

For me, the cross without Mary reflects Jesus' pain in solitude, but when she is with Him, that same pain is filled with tenderness, companionship, and hope. The Mother shares her Son's suffering and transforms it into an act of love that reaches us all. It is the love that Jesus acknowledges when He entrusts His Mother with the care of John, and which invites us to live our faith with fidelity, dedication, and openness to God's love.

Thus, the cross with Mary becomes a mirror of our daily life: a reminder that we are not alone and that true love transforms every challenge into unity and hope.

Working on this design has been, for over ten years and with each modification, an act of reflection and prayer. Over time, I have refined and enriched it with details, just as my own encounter with Jesus has deepened. As I progress in my Schoenstatt formation, I feel myself drawing ever closer to Him, and perhaps it is Mary who, with her motherly love, guides me on this path, using Schoenstatt as the chosen instrument to draw me closer to her Son.

With this design, I hope that everyone who sees it will feel a special connection with Christ and the Mother, finding in the Cross of Unity a personal meeting point where Jesus and his Mother walk alongside us.

His presence reminds us that we are not alone, and gives us the strength to live our faith with joy, dedication, and hope, guiding us toward true unity in our daily lives.
